HONORING JOE TOVAR UPON HIS
RETIREMENT FROM THE
OAKLEY FIRE PROTEC'T'ION DISTRICT
WHEREAS, Joe Tovar has served as Fire Chief for Oakley Fire Protection District since
1974 and as a volunteer since 1953; and
WHEREAS, these years of service have been marked by exemplary and energetic
leadership and resulted in vital accomplishments for the Oakley Fire Protection District; and
WHEREAS, before his retirement in 1982, Joe worked thirty-four years for Dow
Chemical Company; and
WHEREAS, he has earned the admiration and high regard of those with whom he has
come into contact; and
WHEREAS,Joe continues to serve his community as a Deacon at St. Anthony's Catholic
Church in Oakley; and
WHEREAS, he will honored by friends, co-workers and elected officials who are deeply
appreciative of his many contributions at a commemorative dinner on July 8,2000.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County
of Contra Costa, California, does hereby express sincere appreciation and thanks to Joe Tovar for
his distinguished service to the Oakley Fire Protection District, and highly commends him for the
manner in which he has carried out his duties and responsibilities in the last forty-seven years.

000 -(Deputy Directors of General Services-Exempt and Lease Manager-Exempt)
The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors ordains as follows (omitting the
parenthetical footnotes from the official text of the enacted or amended provisions of
the County Ordinance Code):
SECTION t. Section 33-5.375 of the County Ordinance Code is amended to exclude
the classes and positions of Deputy General Services Director-Facilities, Deputy
General Services Director, and Lease Manager from the county's merit system, to read:
33-5.375 General Services Exclusions. (a) The Director of General Services-
Exempt is excluded and is appointed by the County Administrator. (b) The
classes and positions of Deputy General Services Director-Facilities, Deputy
General Services Director and Lease Manager are excluded and are appointed
by the Director of General Services-Exempt (Ords. 2000 - , 85-79 § 2, 85-54
§ 2.)
SECTION II: EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance becomes effective 30 days after
passage, and within 15 days of passage shall be published once with the names of the
supervisors voting for and against it in the , a
newspaper published in this County.
