ACKNOWLEDGE the critical role of fathers in the development of healthy children and healthy families; 2. ACKNOWLEDGE the excellent work done to present the upcoming June 22, 2000 Council for Perinatal Health forum on "Embracing Fatherhood: Meting the Needs of Men in the Service Delivery System". The forum has been planned and sponsored.by Family,Maternal &Child Health,the AIDS Program.,the Community Substance Abuse Services Division and the Contra Costa Health Plan—all of Contra Costa Health Services;the East Bay Perinatal Council,the Perinatal Network of Alameda/Contra Costa County,Black Infant Health and the Contra Costa Crisis Center; 3. APPROVE the creation of an ad hoc committee comprising Supervisors DeSaulnier and Gioia to provide direction on how County systems can best prepare and support men in their role as fathers,to report back to the Board in six.months. With staff support drawn from County Departments and programs as needed,the committee will assess current practice and make recommendations in the following areas: County support for clients who are fathers across Departments and programs, County family-and father-friendliness as a workplace and recognition of individuals and agencies that promote and support the best practices in fathering; 4. REFER to the Countywide Youth Commission for its input and recommendations the issue of how County systems can best prepare and support men in their role as fathers;and 5.
