His noble act blazed the path to Philippines' independence. W 'EMS, IDR.JOSE RIZAL with his writings,sought to break the chains of over three hundred years colonial rule through peaceful means,dedicated his life to defending the rights of the Filipinos, and championing the recognition and respect for their individual freedoms and human rights; and "TIEREASi, DR.JOSE RMAL is a recognized hero being celebrated by the Filipino community this year with the theme of"DR.RIZAL'S SPIRIT AND INSPIRATION INTO THE 21"r CENTURY'." The Pinole Library and the Filipino Community of Contra Costa County are sponsoring an event on June 17, 2000 at the Pinole Library.The Pinole Library has the largest collection of Filipiniana materials in the United States and is home to an extensive collection of Dr.Rizal`s original works; and WJYMMS,DR.JOSERIZAL is a national treasure of the Philippines and the Filipino-American population of Contra Costa County. His philosophy on social and political reforms through non-violence parallels that of Martin Luther Icing,Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi in the quest for civil rights and fair treatment for all.
