Home My WebLink AboutMINUTES - 05092000 - C1-C4 RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF THE RESOLUTION NO. 2000/217 LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN FOR THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS, JUNE 7, 2000 WHEREAS, Since 1984, law enforcement officers have logged over 500,000 miles running in support of Special Olympics; and WHEREAS, This year, law enforcement officers will run in all 50 states and the District of Columbia to officially commence the Summer Special Olympics Games; and WHEREAS, Law Enforcement agencies in Contra Costa County will carry the torch and run for Special Olympics on June 7, 2000; and WHEREAS, Contra Costa County wholeheartedly supports Special Olympics as the world's largest year-round sports training and competition program for developmentally disabled children and adults; and WHEREAS, Contra Costa County wishes to "Join the World of Winners" and also commend the efforts of law enforcement in support of Special Olympics. Once they try bicycling, it is hoped that many participants will continue to commute by bicycle one or more days a week. Bicycling is a healthful, nonpolluting, energy-saving mode of transportation that offers great dividends to both the user and the community.
