RESOLUTION NO. 2000/248
WHEREAS, decent, safe and affordable housing is one of the basic necessities of life and
affordable housing is of vital importance to the health and well being of residents of Contra
Costa County; and
WHEREAS, hundreds of residents of Contra Costa County live in overcrowded, substandard,
and otherwise inadequate housing and many are paying 30 to 50 percent of their income for
housing and are at significant risk of losing their housing and becoming homeless; and
WHEREAS, hundreds of units of affordable housing7have been built by non-profit developers in
this county and these affordable housing units are well managed, well maintained, and are
contributing to the communities in which they are located, and
WHEREAS, The Association of Homeless and Housing Service Providers of Contra Costa
County and East Bay Housing Organizations have organized events during Affordable Housing
Week to acknowledge the need for, and contributions of affordable housing.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declare June 2''
through June 11") 2000 as Affordable Housing Week in Contra Costa County and call upon
the people of Contra Costa County to learn about and honor the contributions of affordable
housing by participating in activities held throughout the week to commemorate this observance.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON May 23, 2000, by a unanimous vote of the Board members
present.
