RESOL UTION NO. 20001173
IN THE MATTER OF PROMOTING
The Week of April 16-22 as: "National Infant Immunization Week"and
The Month of May as: "Toddler Immunization Month"
WHEREAS, immunizations are our children's only defense against vaccine-preventable �-
diseases; and
WHEREAS, preventable childhood diseases like chicken pox still pose a serious threat to
infants and toddlers, and complications of these diseases are often devastating to both patients
and their families; and
WHEREAS, each week a child in the U.S. dies from chicken pox complications; and
WHEREAS, these deaths could have been prevented with one dose of chicken pox vaccine;
and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 741 was passed in October 1999 requiring chicken pox
immunization for child care and kindergarten entry, effective July 2001; and
WHEREAS, a local coalition of Contra Costa public and private health care providers, faith
community leaders, child care providers, businesses, and community organizations has joined
together to observe National Infant Immunization Week during April 16-22, and Toddler
Immunization Month in May to bring attention to the need for timely immunizations;
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE PROCLAIMED BY THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, that the week of April 16-22 be designated "Infant
Immunization Week - No Spots on Tots" and the month of May be designated "Toddler
Immunization Month" to alert parents to the dangers of chicken pox and inform them of the
new law, SB 741.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 18th day of April, 2000.

IN THE MATTER, OF RECOGNIZING RESOLUTION NO. 2000/170
THE DEDICATION OF TIME PONY
EXPRESS MONUMENT TO THE CITY
OF MARTINEZ
WHEREAS, THE PONY EXPRESS has been preserved by the City of Martinez as an important
part of its heritage; and
WHEREAS, THE PONY EXPRESS, served as a picturesque means of mail delivery founded on
April 23, 1860 when the first Pony Express rider, Thomas Bedford, rode through town; and
WHEREAS, THE PONY EXPRESS station in Martinez was used as a home station-where riders
would exchange duties when riding from Sacramento to San Francisco; and
WHEREAS, THE CITY OF MARTINEZ has been selected as a site for this historically accurate
monument that tells that part of the 1860-61 Pony Express, and is being recognized for their efforts in
providing their citizens and those of Contra Costa County this part of their history.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County
does hereby honor and commend the
PASSED by vote of the Board of Supervisors members present on this i gth day of April, 2000.

SUBJECT: Proclaiming National Public Works Week— May 21-27, 2000
WHEREAS public works services provided in our community are an integral part of our
citizens' everyday lives; and
WHEREAS the support of an understanding and informed citizenry is vital to the efficient
operation of public works systems and programs such as water, sewers, streets and
highways, public buildings, solid waste; and
WHEREAS the health, safety, and comfort of this community greatly depend on these
facilities and services; and
WHEREAS the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff public works
departments are materially influenced by the people's attitude and understanding of the
importance of the work they perform; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, does hereby
proclaim May 2127, 2000 as NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK in Contra Costa County,
and call upon all citizens and civic organizations to acquaint themselves with the problems
involved in providing public works services and to recognize the contributions that public
works officials make every day to our health, safety, and comfort.
