FINANCIAL IMPACT A total of$56,000.00 has been budgeted by the Housing Authority of the County of Contra Costa for summer recreation programs during 1999 III. REASON FOR RECOMMEDATIONJBACKGROUNO The Dousing Authority has solicited summer recreation program proposals in order to provide alternative program for youth in public housing developments during the summer months. 1. CAO 11005, EL PUEBLO, Pittsburg Pre-School Coordinating Council would provide services specifically for 18 children between the ages 2/2 and 5 years,for families residing in E1 Pueblo. The program emphasizes educational activities which include social and emotional growth,language and arts activities and physical development and cognitive shills. Additionally the program will reflect parent involvement,training,information and referral. The program will begin May 30, 1999 and end July 9, 1999. 2. CA011005,EL PUEBLO, Pittsburg East County Boys and Girls Club proposes six core areas for Program support El Pueblo Youth. The program explores personal adjustment issues, citizenship and leadership development, cultural enrichment,Health and physical education, social recreations services and outdoor and environmental educational services. Transportation will bring youth to the East County Boys and Girls facility at 1001 Stoneman Avenue for programs slated from June 15,to August 21, 1999, 1 CA011010,BAYO VISTA, Rodeo Martinez Boys and Girls Club will provide various summer recreational programs for the youth of Bayo Nista Housing Development. Some of these programs include social recreation where youth will develop interpersonal skills through games and activities that encourage team playing and making new friends. Another program titled Smart Moves is designed to encourage young people ages 7-18 to make the right choices in avoiding drugialcohol abuse and teen pregnancy prevention. Transportation and field trip will also be included. IV. CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Should the Board of Commissioners elect not to approve the expenditure of funds from the Housing Authority Management Funds to authorize the 1999 Summer Recreation Programs in Pittsburg, Bay:Point,and Rodeo,those areas will be deprived of programs which provide recreational,educational and social activities to its youth participants and their families.
