HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06081999 - C6 i A BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY In the Matter Proclaiming) June 11, 1999 Trade ) Union Women Leaders' ) Clay in Contra Costa ) County ) Resolution No. 991287 Whereas, women who have formed or joined trade unions have gained an advantage in wages and working conditions over their sisters who do not enjoy the protection of collective bargaining; and Whereas, the Central Labor Council of Contra Costa County has, through the establishment of the Carolyn Robinson Scholarship Fund, acknowledged and advanced the proposition that the labor force, the labor movement, and the entire community benefit when women are encouraged, trained, and qualified to exercise leadership in their unions; and Whereas, in recognition of this commitment on the part of the Central tabor Council, Linda Chavez-Thompson, Executive Vice-President of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, will be the featured speaker on Friday, dune 11, 1999 at a celebration recognizing and supporting the Carolyn Robinson Scholarship Fund: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, in token of their shared commitment to developing and advancing women leaders in all aspects of the work force, welcome Ms. Chavez Thompson to Contra Costa and proclaim Friday, June 11, 1999 Trade Union Women Leaders' Day in Contra Costa County.
