HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05251999 - P3 129 3Bc3ov -rbdL cr E x.]s4Bxww1c►x-*ma In the Meter of Resolution No, 99/267 WHEREAS, drug Courts provide the focus and leadership for community-wide,anti::rug systems, bringing together criminal justice, treatment, education and other community 'partners in the fight against drug abuse and criminality,and- WHEREAS, ndWHEREAS, drug court programs combine intensive'i idicial supervision, mandatory substance abuse treatment and drug testing and escalating sanctions and incentives in order to brew the cycle of drug addiction and its concomitant crime,and WHEREAS, the judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, treatment and rehabilitation professionals, law enforcement and corrections personnel, researchers and educators, national and col;munity leaders and others dedicated to the movement have had a profound impact through hard work and commitment to their communities;and WHEREAS, the drug court movement has drown from the 12 original drug courts in 1994 to over 500 drug courts that are in operation or in the planning stages,and NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California, does hereby declares that a 'National Drug Court Week'be established the week of June l-7, 1999, recognizing the practitioners and participants who make drug courts work and the significant contributions that drug courts have made,and continue to mane, in reducing drug usage and crime.
