Costa Regional Medica. Center and. the Contra Costa. Health Centers. FISCAL IMPACT: This Contract is included in the Health Services Department' s Enterprise I Budget and the source of funding is salary savings generated through vacant registered nurse positions! RACXGRC?UND/REASON(S) FQ7R R,ECCMM ATION{S} : For several years the County has contracted with nursing registries to provide temporary licensed nursling personnel to assist Contra. Costa Regional Medical Center and the Contra Costa Health Centers during peak loads, temporary absences and emergency situations . There continues to be a Nationwide nursing shortage, and in spite of persistent efforts to recruit nurses, the Department has experienced great difficulty in filling vacant positions . Therefore, the Depart- ment has had to rely heavily on the registry services in order to provide quality nursing care for patients. On July 14, 1998 the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-186- 12 , with StarMed Staffing, Inc. , for the provision of nursing registry services, for the period from June 1, 1,998through May 31, 1999 . Approval of Contract #26-186-13 will allow the Contractor to continue providing services through May 31, 2000 . BACKGROUND //REASON(S) FOR RECO ION(S) : On February 23, 1999, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26- 178`15 with Linda. Nakell, M.D. , for the period from March 1, 1999 through February 29, 2000 for the provision of behavioral science consultation services . Due to the mutual mistake of the parties, the Contract did not accurately reflect the. oral agreement between parties, which was that the Contractor would receive a negotiated 41; increase in her hourly salary, effective March 1, 1999 . Approval of this Contract Amendment Agreement #26-178-16 will reform the Contract, to make the formai Contract consistent with the oral agreement, which was negotiated with the Contractor and allow the Contractor to continue providing services through February 29, 2000 .
