BACKGROUND: Attached is a letter indicating that five members of the Local Child Care and Development Planning Council have resigned. It is appropriate for the Board of Supervisors to accept the resignations. While the State law (Education Cade Section 8499.3)provides that one-half of the members of the Planning Council be appointed by the Superintendent of Schools and one-half by the Board of Supervisors, the practice in Contra Costa County has been to have both appointing bodies concur in all appointments. Attached is a letter indicating that the terms of several members expire April 30, 1999 and indicating that five of the members whose terms expire wish to be reappointed. Because all appointments to the Local Planning Council are made by both the County Superintendent of Schools and the Board of Supervisors it is appropriate for the Board to refer these reappointments to the Family and Human Services Committee so they can meet with the Superintendent and determine which of the individuals will be reappointed by both the Superintendent and the Board.
