HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04271999 - P4 im DUAIW OF SUPERVISORS OF Col TRA COSTA COUNTY,CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on April 27, 1999 by the following vote: AYES- SUPERVISORS GIOIA, UIIYJMI GERBER, DeSAULNIER, AND C&NCIAMILIA NOES: NONE ABSENT: NONE ABSTAIN: NONE In the Matter of PROCLAEWING the month of May,19" RESOLLJT1ON NO.99/168 as"Mental Realthmonth" (in Contra Costa County) The Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County RESOLVES THAT: WHEREAS,it is increasingly important to emphasize that mental health is critical for the well-being and vitality of our families,businesses and communities,and WHEREAS, there is a need to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining mental health,and to learn more about the impact of mental disabilities on one's mental health;and WHEREAS,learning more about mental health is important in educating the public about mental disabilities and it is vital to dispel associated negative preconceptions about persons with mental disabilities; and WHEREAS,the National Mental Health Association,the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare,and thew partners celebrate Mental Health Month each year in May to raise awareness about mental health,mental disabilities,and insurance discrimination against people with mental disabilities; and WHEREAS,Contra Costa County Mental Health Division is the leader in the State in implementing a Recovery Model that will improve the quality of life and give a message of hope for the Contra Costa citizens that have psychiatric disabilities; and WHEREAS, Contra Costa Health Services/Mental Health Division and the Mental Health Commission will co-sponsor the second annual Hope Faire on Saturday,May 1, 1999,from 9 AM to 5 PM in Todos Santos Park in downtown Concord,hosting a county-wide faire open to the general public to permit residents to take a mental health day as part of Mental Health Month and to enable residents to learn more about mental health and mental health resources; NOW, THEREFORE, LET ITBERESOLVED BY THE CON7RA COSTA COUN7YBOAP-D OF SUPER VISOn that the Members proclaim the month of May 1999 as"Mental Health Month",and request the support of Contra Costa County residents and organizations in this effort to increase awareness about the importance of mental health and to promote the understanding that,through proper treatment and rehabilitation,individuals are able to resume productive,satisfying lives,and through education about mental health,negative preconceptions about persons with mental disabilities can be dispelled. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 27th day ofApril, 1999.
