IN THE MATTER OF PROMOTING REsOLUTIONNO. 99/167
The Week of April 18-24 as:
"National Infant Immunization Week"
And
The Month of May as:
"Toddler Immunization Month'
WHEREAS the childhood diseases ofpolio, measles, diphtheria, tetanus,pertussis, mumps,
rubella,Hib meningitis and chicken pox still pose a threat to unimmunized children, and
complications of these diseases are often devastating to both patients and their families; and
WHEREAS the basic series of immunizations against childhood diseases should be
completed before a child's second birthday; and
WHEREAS many parents are unaware of the fact that each year unprotected children,
especially those under two years of age, suffer death or disability from complications due
to chicken pox, and are also unaware that varicella vaccine against chicken pox is effective
and off`eyed from providers throughout the county; and
WHEREAS although varicella (chicken pox) is the greatest vaccine preventable killer of
children in the United States, less than 30%of children aged 19-35 months have received
varicella vaccination; and
WHEREAS National Infant Immunization Week 1999 activities will focus on "Stop the Pox'
to promote awareness and encourage parents to bring children in for immunization against
varicella; and
WHEREAS Contra Costa Health Services Public Health staff will continue to hold daily
clinics where toddlers can receive free varicella vaccination as well as other immunizations;
and
WHEREAS private physicians throughout the county also are part of special efforts to
encourage parents to bring their young children in for needed immunizations during April
and May;
NOW, THEREFORE, LET ITBERESOLVER BY THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, That the Members proclaim the week of April 18-24 as
'National Infant Immunization Week- Stop the Pox'and the month of May as "Toddler
Immunization Month" and request the support of Contra Costa County residents and
organizations in this effort to protect our children between birth and two years from
dangerous diseases,
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board Members present on this 20th day of
April, 1999.

SUBJECT: Proclaiming National Public Works Week— May 16-22, 1999
WHEREAS public works services provided in our community are an integral part of our
citizens' everyday lives; and
WHEREAS the support of an understanding and informed citizenry is vital to the efficient
operation of public works systems and programs such as water, sewers, streets and
highways, public buildings, solid waste; and
WHEREAS the health, safety, and comfort of this community greatly depend on these
facilities and services; and
WHEREAS the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff public works
departments are materially influenced by the people's attitude and understanding of the
importance of the work they perform; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, does hereby
proclaim May 16-22, 1999 as NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK in Contra Costa County,
and call upon all citizens and civic organizations to acquaint themselves with the problems
involved in providing public works services and to recognize the contributions that public
works officials make every day to our health, safety, and comfort.

WHEREAS,The San Pablo International Marketplace, with over half a
million square feet of commercial_space, is the area's largest retail center
development project;and
WHEREAS, The San Pablo International Marketplace will feature a family
entertainment center,a jewelry mart,an international food court,a full-
service supermarket, and a 37,000-square-feet Community Resources
Center,and,
WHEREAS, The San Pablo International Marketplace will provide a big boost
for the local economy by creating more than 300 jobs,as well as a new
stream of revenue to local government,and;
WHEREAS, The San Pablo International Marketplace, created through a
partnership of private industry and the City of San Pablo Redevelopment
Agency, is an inspiring example of balanced business development and
community and government participation;and
WHEREAS,The San Pablo International Marketplace,will benefit the local
community by housing a Community Resource Center, a child care facility,a
community gall, the second largest library in Contra Costa County,;and a ,
job training facility,and,
WHEREAS,The San Pablo International Marketplace gateway,as the main
entrance to the San Pablo International Marketplace, has grabbed headline
attention as a major landmark in West Contra Costa County, and;
WHEREAS, The San Pablo International Marketplace Gateway Christening
Ceremony, held on this day,April 17, 1999, is a historic event,as it will
officially proclaim the 118-feet long gateway spanning across San Pablo
Avenue as the"Largest Gateway in California".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the
County of Contra Costa,State of California,does hereby recognize and
commend all of those who contributed to The San Pablo International
Marketplace and we recognize that Contra Costa County will benefit
immensely from its wonders.
