Ill. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONIBACKGROUND
Provide office space as required for the Supervisor; District 1. The District Attorney has a
requirement for the space now occupied by the Supervisor in the West County Courthouse at
100 37th Street, Richmond. There is no other suitable space in the Courthouse for the
Supervisor's office. The new office acquired by this lease will provide adequate space for the
District 1 Supervisor and staff in a convenient location accessible by public transportation on
San Pablo Avenue adjacent to the Del Norte BART station. The County currently leases
another suite in the same complex for a Health Services Department clinic.

SUBJECT: District 1 Supervisor's Spaces
I want to reaffirm my support and appreciation for Supervisor Gioia`s willingness (and your
backing) to move his County office spaces from the Court Building to a more suitable location on
San Pablo Avenue. That move will benefit the public as well as enhance County operations.
The present, historical location of the Supervisor's spaces is on the second floor of the Court
Building, adjacent to the Office of the District Attorney. This is an out-cif-the-way, noisy, and
inadequate setup for service to the public by the Supervisor and his staff. The new spaces on
San Pablo Avenue will be much more suitable.
In addition, the relocation will greatly benefit the District Attorney's unit by allowing the office to
move its first floor operations to the second floor, thereby uniting the staff in one easily
manageable location. This should enhance the efficiency of the operation.
It is also anticipated that those interior walls which at present create a corridor (necessary
because of the adjacent Supervisor's office) can be removed, thereby greatly increasing the
square footage available as well as enhancing the light and visual comfort level for the staff.
The long overdue movies will enhance both public service and staff efficiency for the Supervisor
and the District Attorney, Let's keep the projects moving ahead.
