HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 03231999 - P2 2- 0/77 In the Matter of Commending Resolution No. 99/125 Scott Dees for Heroism WHEREAS, on September 11, 1998, while attending a local football game at San Ramon Valley High School in Danville, California, Scott Dees, a 17 year old student from California High School in San Ramon, California approached a scene involving a large group of people who were watching a vicious attack on a defenseless young man who lay semi-conscious; and, WHEREAS, without regard for his own personal safety and, though, clearly outnumbered and under threat of harm by the attackers, Scott intervened and halted the brutal attack; and, WHEREAS, Scott remained with the victim until police arrived, administering first aid and ensuring that emergency medical help was summoned; and, WHEREAS, during the ensuing police investigation and lengthy court trial, Scott assisted in identifying many of the individuals responsible for the attack and remained stalwart in his testimony as a factual and credible witness; and, WHEREAS, Scott's courageous act in saving the victim from further injury despite risk to his own safety, accompanied by his honesty and integrity during the subsequent investigation and trial, shines forth as a true example of citizenship and community leadership; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS RESOLVED that Scott Dees be commended for his courage in the face of grave personal danger; for his values and strength of character that prompted him to respond to someone in desperate need while others stood by, helplessly; and for his commitment and integrity that helped to bring those responsible for the attack to justice. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Scott's actions in response to the victim's plight serve as an example for all citizens to be of service to others and to make a positive difference in the community.
