There are several vacancies for which PEHAB has been recruiting and interviewing. PEHAB has made recommendations regarding appointments to several of the vacant seats. We have been provided and have reviewed all of the applications that have been received. We concur with the above recommended appointments. We have asked that staff contact the Central Labor Council and ask for a recommendation for a labor representative and then bring their response to our Committee's attention. Recruitment is still underway for the remaining vacancies. We are, therefore, making the above recommendations. -2- TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IOC-04 r _r Contra FROM: . ABOLISH the seat on the Public and Environmental Health Advisory Board designated for a representative of the U.C. Berkeley School of Public Health. 3. ADD a seat on the Public and Environmental Health Advisory Board for a representative of immigrants. 4. ADD a seat on the Public and Environmental Health Advisory Board for an at-large member with no geographic designation, meaning the individual could be from any area of the County. BACKGROUND: The Public Health Director, Dr. Wendel Brunner, met with our Committee on March 3, 1999 to discuss several issues regarding the Public and Environmental Health Advisory Board. He noted that it has been very difficult to get someone from the School of Public Health to agree to serve on the Advisory Board and the incumbent of the Public Health Nursing seat has just resigned. In the past it has been difficult to recruit a public health nursing person for this seat. In addition, Dr. Brunner noted that the directions taken by the Advisory Board change from time to time and it now CONTINUED ON ATTACHMENT: YES SIGNATURE. —RECOMMENDATION MENDATION OF CO NTY AC3ItIINISTRATOR —RECOMMENDATION OF BOARD COMMITTEE —APPROVE APPROVE OTHER s -tu SIGNATURE ACTION OF BOARD ON B. l _.m API?ROJED A5 RECOMMENDED _11L OTHER z VOTE OF SUPERVISORS I HEREBY CERTIFY THAT THIS IS A TRUE ..UNANIMOUS(ABSENT _ .one —_ } AND CORRECT COPY OF AN ACTION TAKEN AYES: NOES: - AND ENTERED ON THE MINUTES OF THE BOARD ABSENT: ABSTAIN: OF SUPERVISORS ON THE BATE SHOWN. The creation of one additional at-large seat which is not tied to any particular geographic area of the County will allow our Committee to help balance the ethnic and geographic balance of the Advisory Board.
