RUPF, SheriffCosta DATE: May 12, 1998 County Request for Temporary County 5 MPH Speed Zane - ©id River SPECIFIC REOUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)i BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION 1. RECOMMENDED ACTION: It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors approve a temporary 5 MPH zone on Old River adjacent to Arwood Tract for the purpose of a 'barge crossing to Woodward Island (San Joaquin County), 11. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The Sheriff's Marine Services Bureau currently patrols this waterway, therefore, no additional enforcement costs would be incurred. The cost of the 5 MPH speed zone signs and 5 MPH speed zone buoys would be incurred by Mountain Cascade Inc. . Ill. REASCIN§ FOR RECOMMENDATION. A request was made by Jamie Karg of Mountain Cascade, Inc., to establish a temporary 5 MPH speed zone for public safety during a project in which a ferry/barge will be transporting equipment and materials to and from Woodward Island. The project calls for a 40' x 135' 1000 ton capacity "cable drawn" barge that would run across Old River between Orwood Tract, south of Cruiser Haven Marina and Woodward Island in San Joaquin County. The total barge run would be for a distance of approximately 203 yards and the project would be in operation for approximately one year.
