William Walker, M.D. , Health Services Director t� Contra By: Ginger Marieiro, Contract Administrator Costa DATE: May 13, 1998 County SUBJECT: Approval of Contract 426-251-7 with Interim Physicians, Inc. dba SPEC1FiC REQUEST(S)OR REC MENDAT1ON(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMM MATION(S) : Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Frank Puglisi, Jr. ) , to execute on behalf of the 'County, Contract ##26-251-7 with Interim Physicians, Inc. dba Western Physicians Registry, for the period from June 1, 1998 through May 31, 1999, for recruitment of locum tenens physicians for Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers . FISCAL IMPACT: Funding for this Contract is included in the Department' s Enterprise I Budget . The Contractor will be paid a finder's fee of 15%- of the amount County pays the locum tenens physicians which Contractor recruits and places at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center. Cost to the County depends upon utilization. SACKOROtNDZ ' SASON(S) FOR RECOMMENDATION(S) : On May 20, 1997, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-251.-5 (as amended by Contract Amendment Agreement ##26-251-6) with Interim Physicians, Inc. dba Western Physicians Registry, for the period from May 15, 1997 through May 31, 1998 . This Contractor, which specializes in placement of locum tenens physicians, recruits physicians for the County, which the County then hires to work as temporary employees to provide vacation, sick leave, and extended Leave relief for County-employed physicians . Physicians, placed by the Contractor, are required to be members of theCounty's Medical Staff and to be credentialed through existingmedical staff processes . BACXgROUNDJREASON(8) FOR RECOMMENDATION(5) For a number of years the County has contracted with Medical and Dental Specialists to provide specialized professional services which are not otherwise available in its hospital and health centers. On June 3, 1997, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-817-21 with East Bay Nephrology Medical Group, Inc. for the; period from July 1, 1997 through June 30, 1998 . Approval of Contract #26-817-22 will allow East Bay Nephrology Group to continue providing Nephrology Services for Contra Costa regional Medical Center and the Contra Costa Health Centers through June 30, 1999 . Diablo Unified School District, for the period from April 1, 1998 through March 31, 1999, for the provision of clinical experience for Medical Office Assistant students . FISCAL IMPACfi t None . III . BACKGROUND/REASON(S) FOR RECOMMEnDATION(S) : The purpose of this agreement is to provide Contractor' s students with the opportunity to integrate academic knowledge with applica- tion skills and attitudes at progressively higher levels of performance requirements and responsibility. Supervised field work experience for students is considered to be an integral' part of both the educational and professional preparation. The Health Services Department can provide the requisite field education, while at the same time, taking advantage of the students ' services to patients . Approval of this Unpaid Student Training Agreement #26-155-3 will provide supervised clinical experience for students enrolled in the Mt .
