Re: Brentwood Agricultural Enterprise/Preservation Program
Dear Chairman Rogers and Members of the Board of Supervisors:
Based on our rich historic agricultural heritage and the importance of agriculture to Brentwood's
and the County's economy and quality of life, on May 12, 1998 there was a vote at Brentwood's
City Council to support the Board of Supervisors program to protect agricultural land
surrounding Brentwood. City representatives have recently nut with Supervisor Canciamilla and
County staff to discuss how the City of Brentwood and Contra Costa County, may work
cooperatively to support the agricultural industry. The City was advised to submit a formal
request to the full Board of Supervisors to add this project to the appropriateCounty star's work
program. Brentwood is interested in drafting a right to farm Ordinance to protect farms that edge
our City limits.
Preservation of agricultural land and strengthening agricultural enterprise within Contra Costa
County is important for both economic and aesthetic reasons. We should ask all,the Contra Costa
Cities, the state and surrounding counties for input and financial support on this issue.
Brentwood feels the County and the agricultural community should approach this from a more
statewide and regional method. We welcome the opportunity to share information and ideas on
this important topic.
Please feel free to contact me or our City Manager on this matter.
Sincerely,
Sohn Morrill
Mayor
