C. . 37 Board of Supervisors Of Contra Costa County, State of California In the Matter Commending Michael j Sands for Outstanding Service to the j Slackhawk and Canyon Lakes j Geologic Hazard Abatement districts j Resolution No. 981316 WHEREAS, Michael Sands has worked for the Blackhawk and Canyon Lakes Geologic Hazard Abatement Districts (GHADs)for twelve years; and WHEREAS, Michael Sands has served in the capacity of Construction and Maintenance Superintendent for both the Blackhawk and Canyon Lakes GHADs for approximately eight years; and WHEREAS, Michael has extensive experience in responding to, and assisting with, the repair of landslides and landslide related worts in the GHADs and surrounding areas; and WHEREAS, due to the untimely death of the former General Manager of the GHADs, combined with the disastrous effects of El Nino, Michael has absorbed additional responsibility in order to assure that the residents of Blackhawk and Canyon Lakes are serviced at all times; and WHEREAS, most recently, Michael Sands exemplified the depth of his skills, resources and commitment during an emergency operation to protect two residences from a landslide on Chestnut Drive in Blackhawk: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County commends Michael Santis for outstanding service to the Blackhawk and Canyon Lakes Geologic Hazard Abatement Districts, thanks him for his loyal service to residents, and looks forward to continuing to work with him in the future. S Deputy Clerk Board of Supervisors Of Contra Costa County, State of California IN THE MATTER OF PROCLAIMING ) JUNE 22-28, 1998 AS ) RESOLUTION NO. 98/328 AMATEUR RADIO WEEK ) WHEREAS, more than 2, 700 county residents are licensed amateur radio operators; and YMER,EAS, approximately 450 of these operators are members of the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (RACES) and provide invaluable assistance to local government agencies and the general public during major emergencies; and WHEREAS, RACES members volunteer their time and equipment to establish vital emergency communications links during emergencies when traditional communications systems may be partially or totally inoperable; and WHEREAS, the volunteer services of amateur radio operators are also used during non-emergency times to provide on-site communications for major public events such as parades, walk=a-thons and bike-a-thous; and WHEREAS, each year the American Radio Relay League promotes an Amateur Radio Field Clay during which amateur radio clubs throughout the United States practice setting up and operating field radio stations in preparation for handling an actual emergency; and WHEREAS, the Amateur Radio Field Day, which will be held June 27-28, 1998, also provides an opportunity for members of the public to learn about the variety of vital services provided by amateur radio operators. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the week of June22-28, 1998 is declared Amateur Radio Week in recognition of Amateur Radio Field Day and the important public service provided by the amateur radio operators in Contra Costa County. i hereby certify that this is a true and correct copy of an action taken and entered on the minutes of the Bn rd of Supervisors on the date shown.
