PROCLAMATION OF )
WORLD RED CROSS DAY ) RESOLUTION 9812 2 6
WHEREAS, American Red Cross Bay Area in Contra Costa County is part of a
national humanitarian organization and an International Movement of over 250
million members worldwide, dedicated and bound by seven principles, and
WHEREAS, in adherence to the principle of Humanity, the American Red Cross in
Contra Costa County has provided assistance to families without discrimination, and
through its presentation and public education on the Geneva Conventions and
international humanitarian law to promote mutual understanding, friendship,
coopration and lasting peace among all peoples, and
WHEREAS, in adherence to the Movement's principle of Impartiality, services have
been provided without distinction or discrimination as to nationality, race, religious
beliefs, class or political opinions, endeavoring to relieve the suffering of individuals
being guided solely by their needs, giving priority to the most urgent cases of
distress, and
WHEREAS, in adherence to the Movement's principle of Neutrality, not taken sides
in hostilities, but providing aid and comfort to victims of disaster and other
emergencies, and
WHEREAS, in adherence to the Movement's principle of Independence,the Chapter
has maintained their autonomy in the provision of its humanitarian services; and
WHEREAS, in adherence to the Movement's principle of Voluntary services, these
services are provided without prompt or desire for individual gain, and
WHEREAS, in adherence to the Movement's principle of Unity, there is only one
such organization in this county and in this country, and
WHEREAS, in adherence to the Movement's principle of Universality, this Red Cross
is part of amovement where all Societies have equal status, responsibilities and
duties to help each other worldwide.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE
COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA RESOLVED that Friday, May 8th, nineteen hundred
and ninety-eight, in the one hundredth year of the delivery of services in our
community, is declared to be WORLD RED CROSS DAY in Contra Costa County.
PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board members present on this 5th day of
May, 1998.
1 hereby certify that this is a true and correct copy of an order entered on the minutes
of said Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
