ENVIRONMENTAL health hazards; PARTICIPATES WITH PRIVATE INDUSTRY IN PLANNING AND

COLLECTION, RETENTION AND ANALYSIS OF DATA RELATIVE TO HAZARDOUS MATERIAL
ENFORCEMENT; identifies training needs and develops training plans; reviews land
use plans and environmental impact reports for evaluation of air, water and soil
noise,qualities, eemmunity CONTAMINATION and other potential impacts on the
public health.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college
or university with a major in industrial engineering, chemistry, a physical or
biological science, or in a curriculum recognized as being qualifying toward
certification by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene.
Experience: Five years of FULL TIME OR EQUIVILENT professional or technical
experience in hygiene A HAZARDOUS MATERIALS ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM to
include identifying, evaluating, and controlling health hazards in
the community, AT LEAST TWO of which =two- years must HAVE beEN in ##e A
ssupervis4-e4ORY CAPACITY. e
Substitution : EITHER (1) POSSESSION OF A master's degree in occupa-
tional health, industrial hygiene, eAemistry or A closely related FIELD
from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the
required NON-SUPERVISORY experience OR (2) EXPERIENCE AS A HAZARDOUS MATERIALS
SPECIALIST OR OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST WITH CONTRA COSTA COUNTY THAT
INCLUDED SOME LEAD OR PROJECT MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES MAY BE SUBSTITUTED
FOR THE REQUIRED SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Geed knowledge of STATE AND FEDERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING public
health, environmental health, occupational health, and industrial hygiene

knowledge of industrial hygiene equipment and test instruments; ability to plan,

luate and promote occupational and environmental health standards; ability to
investigate, evaluate findings, and make recommendations for the elimination or
control of hazardous or undesirable environmental conditions; ability to
establish and maintain liasion with Federal, State and local agencies and with
labor, management and public interest groups; ability to communicate
effectively; ability to analyze and interpret statistical data related to occu-
pational health; ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
