ROGERS NOES: NONE ABSENT: NONE ABSTAIN: NONE RESOLUTION NO. 981 269 IN THE MATTER OF PROMOTING THE WEEK OF MAY 17-23, 1998 AS "EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK' LET IT BE NOTED THAT: WHEREAS emergency medical services is a vital public service, and WHEREAS the members of emergency medical services teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and WHEREAS access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and WHEREAS emergency medical services providers have traditionally served as the safety net of America's health care system; and WHEREAS emergency medical service teams consist of emergency physicians, emergency nurses, emergency Medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, educators, administrators and others; and WHEREAS approximately two-thirds of all emergency medical services providers are volunteers; and WHEREAS the members of emergency medical services teams, whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving shills, and WHEREAS Americans benefit daily frorn the knowledge and skills of these highly trained individuals; and WHEREAS it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of emergency medical services providers by designating Emergency Medical Services Week; and WHEREAS injury prevention and the appropriate use of the EMS system will help reduce national health care costs; let it be THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, California, hereby proclaim the week of May 17-23, 1995 to be: "EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK" in Contra Costa County and encourage the comrminity to observe this week with appropriate programs, ceremonies and activities. IN THE MATTER OF DECLARING RESOLUTION NO. 99/205 THE BENICIA-MARTINEZ BRIDGE THE BILL BAKER BRIDGE WHEREAS, BILL BAKER was elected to serve in the Congress of the United States in 1992 and 1994; and WHEREAS, BILL BAKER was elected to the California State Assembly for six consecutive terms beginning in 1980,where he earned a reputation as one of the Capitol's most effective leaders, and WHEREAS, THE BENICIA-MARTINEZ BRIDGE on Interstate 680, spanning the mouth of the Sacramento River,and connecting the counties of Solano and Contra Costa,was,in 1985,a four-lane, congested roadway with traffic volume growing at 9% annually. Bill Baker carried legislation which was enacted as Chapter 831,Statutes of 1985,which expressly authorized the California Department of Transportation to undertake all necessary studies to support the expansion of the Benicia-Martinez Bridge to include a new span to carry additional traffic,* and WHEREAS, in recognition of his foresight and dedication,it is appropriate to designate the future span of the Benicia-Martinez Bridge the Bill Baker Bridge, and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby declare the future span of the Benicia-Martinez Bridge th C. I Wish to lipea onftsuf ­­­­.,...I....................................................................................................................................................................... ...................................................................................... .................. r. /S THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on May 19 1998 by the following vote: AYES: SUPERVISORS UILREMA, GERBER, DESAULNIER, CANCIAMILIA and ROGERS NOES: NONE ABSENT: NONE ABSTAIN: NONE In The Matter of pROCLAumNG the week of RESOLUTION NO. 98/ 270 May 18-22,1998 as Bike to Work Week in Contra Costa County, and WHEREAS, breathing clean air is vital to healthy lungs and life, and levels of air pollution in Contra Costa County often exceed health standards; and WHEREAS, Contra Costa County acknowledges that cycling to work is a successful rideshare mode to reduce air pollution, alleviate traffic congestion and decrease fuel consumption; and WHEREAS, Bike to Work Days have proven effective in converting drivers into bicyclists, and educating citizens about the environmental importance of bicycling to work regularly, and WHEREAS, Contra Costa county encourages its citizens to bicycle to work in order to improve air quality, and promote personal and environmental health; and WHEREAS, cities and counties throughout California are promoting May 18-22, 1998 as a statewide Bike to Work Week, known as "California Bike Commute 1998"; and WHEREAS, the American Lung Association, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Contra Costa Health Services Community Wellness and Prevention Program, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and RIDES for Bay Area Commuters are promoting May 18-22, 1998 as the Bay Area's Bike to Work Week, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California, hereby proclaim that May 18-22, 1998, is Contra Costa County Bike to Work Week.
