HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05121998 - C16-C19 THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on May 12, 1998 by the following vote: AYES: SUPERVISORS UILKEMA, GERBER, BESAU VIER, CABICIAMILLA and RO GERS NOES: MON ABSENT: NONE ABSTAIN: NONE RESOLUTION NO. 984125 SUBJECT: PROCLAIMING MAY 17-23, 1998 NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK WHEREAS public works' services provided in our community are an integral part of our citizens' everyday lives, and WHEREAS the support of an understanding and informed citizenry is vital to the efficient operation of public works' systems and programs such as water, sewers, streets and highways, public buildings, solid waste; and WHEREAS the health, safety, and comfort of this community greatly depend on these facilities and services; and WHEREAS the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff public works departments are materially influenced by the people's attitude and understanding of the importance of the work they perform; noir therefore BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, does hereby proclaim May 17-23, 1998 as NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK in Lantra Costa County, and call upon all citizens and civic organizations to acquaint themselves with the problems involved in providing public works services and to recognize the contributions that public works officials make every day to our health, safety, and comfort. McHuen, Deputy Clerk RESOLUTION NO. 98/125 The Board of Supervisors of Centra Costa County In the Matter Resolution No. 9 8/2 4 4 RECOGNITION OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF CLARO'S FIRST COMPUTER CENTER, TO BE DEDICATED AND NAMED IN HONOR OF GUILLERMO MUNIZ WHEREAS, the Chicano Latina Academies Reaching Out (CLARO) was founded in 1995 in Brentwood,California; and WHEREAS, CLARO operates a community telecommunications training center serving middle and high school students who are at-risk;and WHEREAS, CLARO's mission is to help students stay and succeed in school, go on to college, internships or vocational training and job placement for those students seeking work;and WHEREAS, Guillermo Muniz has played a major role in the lives of students that CLARO has designated their first computer center in his honor; and WHEREAS, Mr. Muniz is well known throughout Contra Costa County for his charity to and involvement in schools, community organizations and fundraisers that focus on students, from pre-school through college; and WHEREAS, CLARO will be holding a dedication ceremony of the"Guillermo Muniz Computer Center" on Saturday, May 16, 1998 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at 315 Orchard Drive in Brentwood, California. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California, does hereby extend sincere congratulations to Guillermo Muniz for the honor that has been bestowed upon him for all his charitable work on behalf of CLARO. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Contra Costa, California does hereby extend congratulations to the CLARO organization on the establishment of their first computer center, and expresses appreciation for the continuing services being provided to at-risk youth in East County. HAHN, since moving to Moraga twenty years ago, has committed herself to serving the community through extensive service on the School Board,as a member of the District's Diversity Committee, as a Moraga Educational Foundation member,and a Future Scientists and Engineers of America teacher;and WHEREAS, ALICE U. HAHN, has been active in the Moraga Asian American Club as well as the Asian Pacific Fund in order to further awareness about the Asian American community. A former Rotary club member and active member of the Moraga chamber of commerce,and WHEREAS, ALICE I.I. HAHN'S commitment to her community is a natural extension of her lifelong pursuit of excellence which has carried her from a working class childhood in Korea,to a full scholarship at Fairleigh Dickinson University,to a doctorate in chemistry at the University of Southern California,and as a respected leader in the Moraga community,and WHEREAS, ALICE I.I. HAHN finds the time to be a successful businesswoman, a school board member, a school volunteer, a pivotal figure in the Bay Area's Asian American community, as well as a wife and her first priority, a mother. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County hereby honors and commends for her contributions to the Town of Moraga. WHEREAS,The Jobst Muir Memorial Association was farmed in the 1950's to assure preservation of his Martinez home as a repository for his extensive environmental library;and WHEREAS, The John Muir Memorial Association participated in designating the John.Muir home in Martinez as a national historic site,and "WHEREAS, The John Muir Memorial Association has taken on the task of raising$2.2 million to construct a new Education and Visitor Center at the Martinez site. NOW, 'THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does recognize the"Thank.You Jahn Muir"Capital Campaign with wishes of great success in realizing their fundraising goal.
