Services Department _- ; °4' DATE: March l9, 199 County SUBJECT: DISCHARGE FROM ACCOUNTABILITY SPECIFIC REOUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION AUTHORIZE the discharge from accountability of accounts, received from January 1, 1996 through December 31, 1996, in the amount of$5750.50. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND Approval of the recommended action will allow 127 Animal Services accounts to be written off and purged from the file of active accounts. These accounts are an accumulation of unpaid accounts for the year of 1996, with the majority having balances of$140.00 or less (over 75% have balances of$35.00 or less)'. Write off is consistent with Government Code Sections 25257 and 25259. The cost of administering additional collection procedures would exceed the amount of revenue which might reasonably be anticipated would be recovered. Discharge of accountability does not constitute a release of any person from liability for payment of any amount. Pursuant to Government Coded 25258, the names of the assesses or persons liable and the amounts owed by each are attached, except where disclosure of such information is prohibited by State or Federal law. The Animal Services Department has attempted collection action on these accounts. Due to the age and small balances of the accounts, it is uneconomical to continue any further collection action. The Director, Animal Services Department, certifies and verifies that these facts are accurate and correct.
