HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05061997 - P5 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS - OF _ .CONTRA .COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF.CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Declaring May 1997 as ) _ MOTORCYCLE AWARENESS MONTH ) " RES_OL UTION NO. 97/.203 in Contra Costa County ) WHEREAS, motorcycle riding is a popular form of recreation and efficient transportation for more than 400,000 people in California, and WHEREAS, the safety hazards created-by automobile operators clue to the difficulty of seeing smaller objects on the streets and highways of Contra Costa County are of prime concern to motorcyclists; and WHEREAS, it is especially important that the citizens of our county be aware of motorcycles on the streets and highways and recognize the importance of motorcycle safety; and WHEREAS, the American Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education of California (ABATE) is an I organization that is actively promoting safe operation, increased rider training, -and increased motorist awareness of motorcycles;-and WHEREAS, on May S, 1997,ABATE is sponsoring a motorcycle ride from Contra Costa County I ' to the Sacramento to promote Motorcycle Awareness Month. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declares May 1997 as - MOTORCYCLE AWARENESS MONTH in Contra Costa County and urges both motorcycle riders and automobile drivers to follow the rules of the road so all citizens will remain safe from vehicle accidents and subsequent injuries. - PASSED AND ADOPTED ON May 6, 1997, by a unanimous vote of the Board members present. _ Mark DeSaulnier, Chair _ .1 Roger Gayle B. a _ Donna r r Joe Canciamilla I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correctcopy of an order entered on the Minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the aforesaid date.
