SUBJECT: Approval of Standard Agreement #28-596 with the State Department
of Health Services
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his
designee (Wendel Brunner, M.D. ) , to execute on behalf of the
County, Standard Agreement #28-596 (State #96-26215) with the
State Department of Health Services, Childhood Lead Poisoning
Prevention Branch, for the period from July 1, 1996 through June
30, 1997, for the medical case management of lead poisoned
children. This Standard Agreement provides a maximum reimbursable
amount of $57, 044 for FY 1996-97.
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Approval of this Agreement will result in a maximum reimbursable
amount of $57, 044 from the State. No County funds are required.
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND:
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) identifies lead poisoning as
the principal environmental health problem affecting children in
the United States and emphasizes that this is a problem which is
entirely preventable.
Approval of this Standard Agreement will allow the Department to
identify children with lead poisoning and educate their families
to reduce exposure to environmental risks.
Three certified and sealed copies of this Board Order should be
returned to the Contracts and Grants Unit.
