SUBJECT: APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Social Service Department to accept child care
funds from the California Department of Education for FY 1996 - 1998
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
APPROVE the Child Care and Development Block Grant Expansion Fund contract
from the California Department of Education for FY 1996/1998 and AUTHORIZE the
Social Service Director, or his.designee, to accept the resulting funds for this new
Program.
FISCAL:
Per Agreement No. FAPX-7012, the California Department of Education has offered
expansion funds for FY 1996 - 1998 totalling $374,092. There is no County required
share.
BACKGROUND:
With the advent of the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDGB) in
FY 1996-97, the California Department of Education offered Contra Costa additional
funding under the Alternative Payment Expansion Funding contract. This Block Grant
Expansion money is intended to serve children receiving Child Welfare Services and
families receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, TANF (formerly AFDC).
This Block Grant Expansion money is available to the county from April 1, 1997,
through June 30, 1998, a total of 15-months under this contract.
