Dear Senator Lockyer:
On May 20, 1997, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted
to supported your SB 1108 and authorized me to send you this letter expressing our
strong support for SB 1108.
We believe that we have had great success in placing probation officers in the
schools. Our application for funds from the Juvenile Crime Enforcement and
Accountability Challenge Grant Program (SB 1760) to continue this program was
ranked second highest in Tier 2A, meaning that if additional funds are appropriated
for these programs, we are likely to be funded.
We believe that your approach to addressing juvenile delinquency through
prevention rather than incarceration is on the right track to catching our young people
early, before they have become hardened criminals and helping to tum them back
into being responsible, productive member of the community.
We strongly support SB 1108 and look forward to its early, successful passage in
the Legislature.
Very truly yours,
MARK DeSAULNIER
CHAIRMAN
