HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05201997 - C22 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS CONTRA-COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA - - ..In the Maher of Honoring AC TRANSIT ) on the Occasion of the 60th Anniversary ) _ RESOLUTION NO. 971 247 - gf Its Transbav Bus Service ) WHEREAS, AC Transit operates an extensive 35-route network of bus services which connects - East Bay residential neighborhoods with downtown San Francisco; and WHEREAS, Thursday, May 29, 1997, marks the 60th anniversary of the transbay bus service; and - WHEREAS, a "Diamond Jubilee" celebration is being planned which also will kick off AC Transit's process of refashioning its transbay network to better meet travel needsfor decades to come; and WHEREAS, a draft transbay service plan is being released this month which was written with the assistance of bus drivers and passengers--the real experts on the subject of public transportation; and WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors commends AC Transit for providing years of quality service to the citizens of Contra Costa County and wishes it much success with implementation of its drafted improvements.- _ NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors honors AC TRANSIT on the occasion of its 60th anniversary of its transbay bus service. That's very different from the modest beginnings, in May 1937,when buses first began carrying passengers on the Bay Bridge,with introduction of Line JOHN WOODBL from Richmond,Line N from East Oakland and Line R from Hayward. Director at Largee As we celebrate this 60-year milestone,it's time to tailor the transbay network to better meet future mobility demand.We are initiating this with a draft transbay service plan that's being released this month.Transbay bus drivers and passengers—the real experts on the subject—helped fashion BOARD OFFICERS this draft plan, which aims at increasing the efficiency of today's extensive transbay bus route network.
