SUBJECT: APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF AN INTERIOR DESIGN
CONSULTANT AGREEMENT FOR THE MERRITHEW MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
REPLACEMENT PROJECT, 2500 ALHAMBRA AVENUE, MARTINEZ (WH580B)
SPECIFIC REOUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I . RECOMMENDATION
APPROVE the issuance of a Consultant Services Agreement to Stone
Marraccini Patterson (SMP) , who has met the requirements of the
County' s Minority and Women Business Enterprise contract
compliance program, for interior design services for the
replacement hospital project and AUTHORIZE the County
Administrator or his designee to execute the Contract, which
provides for the design, procurement and installation of
furniture.
II . FINANCIAL IMPACT
The amount of this agreement totals $121, 308, which includes a
$4, 000 reimbursable expenses allowance . Funds in the capital
account established for the project are sufficient to cover the
amount encumbered by this contract, from bond proceeds specified
to this project .
III . BACKGROUND
Interior design services were not included as part of the project
arch-itect' s scope of work. The replacement hospital will be

III . BACKGROUND (continued)
furnished with a combination of new and existing furniture . On
March 4, the Board of Supervisors authorized the County
Administrator to select a consultant who can inventory the existing
furniture and identify the pieces to be relocated. At the time
of occupancy, the Consultant will assist the County in overseeing
the delivery and set up of the new furniture and the moving of the
existing furniture . As part of this contract, the County will
include an option to have the Consultant assist in the selection of
public art/historical memorabilia and assist in planning the
realignment of the existing hospital vacated spaces for
backfill of other Health Services Department activities .
SMP was selected through an RFP/interview process, as the firm most
competent to perform the interior design services for furniture
programing, selection, procurement and installation. The RFP was
publicly advertised and 10 firms were sent copies of the RFP. Three
firms responded and were interviewed. Following notification of its
selection, SMP submitted a fee proposal . Successful negotiations
followed.
