Board Order to Approve
Issuance of a Change Order for
Merrithew Memorial Hospital Replacement Project
Bid Package No. 3
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
Change Order No. 98 will provide for the following:
Proposed Change Order No. 399-U9,U10 Med Gas Outlets,Electrical Outlets $30,477.00
To enhance the function and consistency of the medical gas headwalls, the Owner decided that a
pre-manufactured medical gas headwall should replace the individual headwall utilities. During
an Owner review, the nursing staff requested a modification to the organization of the medical
gas outlets within the pre-manufactured units.
Proposed Change Order No.460-Change Patient Room Sinks $25,656.00
The architectural plan located the patient room sinks on an angled wall directly adjacent to the
room entrance door. During mockup review, it was discovered that a patient bed would hit the
sink when moved in or out of the room. The sinks were changed to a smaller model (Eljer 051-
1384)to allow clearance between the bed and the edge of sink.
Proposed Change Order No.478-Changed Connections for Piping System $37,892.00
Mechanical drawings depicted thermal/vibration flex connections for piping systems entering the
hospital below grade. Based on review of the anticipated structural movement, the Engineer has
determined that seismic flex connections are required on the oxygen, domestic cold water and
fuel oil systems.
Proposed Change Order No. 538-Cooling Tower for Future Lab Building Use $32,382.00
In order to leverage existing utility services, the Owner has requested that the new lab building
utilize the existing hospital's central plant for chilled water and electrical service. The concept
and potential impacts were determined to be acceptable during the Lab value engineering session
held in early March 1997. In order to minimize time impacts, the Contractor was authorized to
purchase and install an additional cooling tower.
The new guaranteed maximum cost will exceed the total estimated cost stated in the construction contract agreement
approved by the Board on February 7, 1995. The new guaranteed maximum cost will total$47,145,498.00.
