SATINDER MALHI AS MARTINEZ ]
1997 YOUNG MAN OF THE YEAR )
WHEREAS, Satinder Malhi has demonstrated strong school leadership Bolding the positions of Sophomore Class
Vice-President, ASB Student Rights Commissioner and currently, Associated Student Body Vice-President; and
WHEREAS, Satinder Manu has unselfishly served as the Martinez Unified School District Student
Representative where he helped address the needs and concerns of students throughout the district. In addition, he
bas helped to raise money for fellow students in the past two years by participating in the annual Martinez Education
Foundation Phone-A-Thon; and
WHEREAS, Satinder Mallu has demonstrated a strong commitment to his community by volunteering at
Merrithew Memorial Hospital helping the staff in various clinics, and by volunteering at the Loaves and Fishes
Community Soup Kitchen during the spring and winter holidays. He has also been selected to receive the
Soroptimist International Foundation of Martinez Youth Citizenship Award and has been nominated for area
consideration; and
WHEREAS, Satinder Mallii volunteered his time in the fall of 1996 at the United Democratic Campaign, and
along with other students, he organized a voter precinct walk and phoned community members reminding them of
how essential voter participation is to the democratic process; and
WHEREAS, Satinder Mallu is a dynamic speaker ranking among the top five finalists for the last three years in
the Sikh Symposium and has twice won the Lyon's Club Student Speakers Contest.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County hereby
honors and commend,

for his contributions to the city of Martinez.
