CONTINUANCE OF HEARING ON ABANDONED VEHICLE ABATEMENT
ACTIVITY TO APRIL 22, 1997
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
APPROVE continuance to April 22, 1997 at 2:00 pm of the March 11, 1997 hearing
on abandoned vehicle abatement appeal by Elizabeth Casey Sawyer, Walnut Creek,
as recommended by County Administrator.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None
BACKGROUND:
Several county departments including Environmental Health, Building Inspection,
Contra Costa Fire, and the Sheriff have been investigating alleged violations on the
Casey property located at 1265 Juanita Drive in Walnut Creek. At this time, those
violations include, but are not limited to the following:
1. A substantial accumulation of miscellaneous nondescript material and
debris on and about the premises of the Casey property.
2. The storage of a travel trailer which lacks the required screening for
obstruction of public viewing.
3. The storage of abandoned otherwise nonoperating vehicles requiring
abatement. /

4. The harboring of materials which may allow for vermin generation.
County departments have been involved in seeking resolution of the aforementioned
areas of concern for the last 15 months. To date no suitable plan has been
articulated and implemented. However, given that next course of action will be the
pursuit of involuntary abatement, the county seeks to allow the property owner the
maximum allowance of time for mitigation of these problem areas before seeking a
more adversarial posture. Thus, the agreement for allowance of a continuance on
this matter to April 22, 1997.
