PACKAGE NO.3-CONSTRUCTION OF NEW HOSPITAL,2500 ALHAMBRA AVENUE,MARTINEZ(WH580B)
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDATION
APPROVE the issuance of Change Order No.89 and 90 to the Contract dated February 7, 1995 issued to Centex Golden
Construction Co. for the Construction of a New Hospital at 2500 Alhambra Avenue, Martinez, and AUTHORIZE the
County Administrator or his designee to execute the Change Order.
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT
Change Order No. 89 totals$82,590 and Change Order No. 90 totals$240,880. Funds in the capital account established
for the project are sufficient to cover the,amount encumbered by this contract, from bond proceeds specified to the
project. Bond financing for the total project cost was secured in May, 1992 in accordance with the Board of Supervisors'
direction.

Issuance of a Change Order for
Merrithew Memorial Hospital Replacement Project
Bid Package No.3
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
Change Order No. 89 will provide for the following:
Proposed Change Order No.276-Fire Marshal Submittal Review Issues $82,590.00
As part of the OSHPD Fire Marshal submittal review, a variety of changes were issued which
affected the location and number of smoke detectors and strobe lights. This change also resulted
in revised.details for the construction of fire rated partitions.
Change Order No.90 will provide for the following:
Proposed Change Order No 257-(Owner Change Request No 11-Radiology Equipment Utility Changes $80,582.00
Due to recent General Electric radiology equipment changes, a variety of electrical circuit and
conduit changes resulted. These changes responded to revised power demands and conduit
routing.
Proposed Change Order No.282-Revisions to the Psych Unit Balconies $41,794.00
Following the issuance of the 4th floor Psych Unit changes, conflict with structural framing and
window units on the two outdoor balconies were identified as shop drawings were prepared by
the contractor. As a result, revised structural calculations and framing details were issued
correcting this problem.
Proposed Change Order No.405-Owner-Change Request No.52-Imaging Department Film
Processing and Remote Diagnosis Stations $47,782.00
The revised County-purchased radiology equipment included digital images which can be
displayed at remote diagnosis stations and printed without film negatives. This new technology
resulted in additional signal cable conduit to the film processors and remote diagnostic stations.
Proposed Change Order No.422-Owner Change Request No 53-Upgraded Nurse Call S ste $70,722.00
Since the award of the hospital project, the nurse call system manufacturer issued a new,
upgraded system known as Responder IV. This system provides greater flexibility which can
better accommodate the nurse staffing changes developing as part of evolving managed care
requirements.
The new guaranteed maximum cost will exceed the total estimated cost stated in the construction contract agreement
approved by the Board on February 7, 1995. The new guaranteed maximum cost will total$46,857.336.00.
