Dear Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County:
I am writing you in hopes of receiving a letter of commendation or
proclamation (or whatever you do for notable citizens). The notable
person I am referring to is Vallie Jo Whitfield, my mother. She
probably holds the record for community service in Pleasant Hill and
Contra Costa County.
On Tuesday,March 18, we are holding a surprising dinner party for
her and would like to be able to present her with a letter from the
Board of.Supervisors.
Her many contributions to Contra Costa County include:

stores and the library in Pleasant Hill

and current member and archivist

former member of the Pleasant Hill ITC group in early 1990s

group) in late.1980s

In 1975 she was included in the Who's Who in the United States for
community service work, and in 1976 was a Pleasant Hill Citizen of
the Year nominee (Chamber of Commerce). In 1976 the City of
Pleasant Hill last presented her with a certificate of appreciation for
volunteer work. She also work as a volunteer genealogist and
historian.
Undoubtedly, during her 45+ years in Contra Costa County, she has
been instrumental in helping build community, in researching the
town's historyand recording it, at being a model of community
service.
I hope you may judge her worthy of a letter of commendation or a
proclamation to be presented on her surprise 75th birthday dinner.
If yes, please advise me as to where I could pick up such a document
for presenting to her at the surprise dinner party on March 18. 1 can
be reached at 415-821-6577 or at 13 Costa St., San Francisco, CA
94110.
And I thank you very much for your consideration of this request.
S' cerely Yours, ,
