SUBJECT: California Street Frontage Improvements - Rodeo Redevelopment Project Area
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATIONS(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATIONS
APPROVE First Amendment to Contract between the Public Works Department and the
Contra Costa County Redevelopment Agency for the California Street sidewalk project; and
AUTHORIZE the Director of Public Works to execute said First Amendment to Contract.
FISCAL IMPACT
No General Funds are involved. The First Amendment provides an additional $35,000 of
Redevelopment Agency tax increments (capital project funds) for this project.
BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
The Agency has previously approved a $60,000 contract with the Contra Costa County Public
Works Department for California Street frontage improvements in the vicinity of Hillcrest
School. In addition, the Agency has secured a $35,000 award of Community Development
Block Grant funds for this project. The Public Works Department was to be contributing
$19,500 of its own funds to this project for preliminary engineering and design.

Public Works staff has advised that additional costs associated with the right-of-way and
drainage problems will result in a shortfall of $35,000. A staff recommendation to
reprogram additional Redevelopment Agency capital funds available in the 1995-96
budget for the Rodeo Redevelopment Project was unanimously approved by the Rodeo
Redevelopment Advisory Committee on May 1, 1996. This contract amendment
accomplishes the additional funding.
