RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve and authorize submission of Funding Application #29-208-54 to the State Department of Health Services, in the amount of $466,858, for the period from July 1, 1996 through June 30, 1997, for continuation of the County's Immunization Assistance Program. II. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Approval of this application by the State will result in $466,858 for the Immunization Assistance Program during Fiscal Year 1996-97. No County funds are required. III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND: For many years the County has maintained programs to make immunizations available to all persons in need of this service, in order to prevent the occurrence and transmission of childhood diseases. The Immunization Assistance Program (IAP) is operated by the Public Health Division of the Health Services Department. Funding Application #29-208-54 requests State funding to continue services during Fiscal Year 1996-97. The Department will continue to monitor the compliance of preschools, elementary schools, and secondary schools in meeting State-mandated immunization requirements. IAP staff will also maintain the adverse reaction monitoring system, outbreak control team and a computerized retrievable immunization record keeping system. This funding will allow increased clinic hours to provide daily and evening clinic services, expanded collaborative outreach efforts with public and private community agencies/providers to target the "hard to reach" children in need of immunizations, and participation in the development of an immunization registry which will link all immunization providers in the county. These efforts are directed toward the Year 2000 goal of having 90% of Contra Costa County's children completing their basic immunization series by two years of age. This application must be approved in order for the County to continue to receive free vaccine from the State. Seven certified and sealed copies of the Board Order should be returned to the Contracts and Grants Unit for submission to the State Department of Health Services.
