NUNES DAY in Contra ) RESOLUTION NO. 961254 Costa County in Honor of His Retirement from ) the Pleasant Hill Police Department ) WHEREAS, Chief Nunes is a true asset to our community, having served 26 years with the Pleasant Hill Police Department (PHPD) and the last 17 years as Chief of Police; and WHEREAS, Chief Nunes' prestigious career began as a Military Police Officer for the U.S. Army, and,from there, he worked his way up through the ranks of city police departments while also obtaining degrees in Criminal Justice and Public Service; and WHEREAS, public safety and close community relations are the priorities Chief Nunes' professional and personable leadership has brought to the PHPD; and WHEREAS, the Department operates many programs and services--such as DARE, Neighborhood Alert, the Citizen Volunteer Program, and the Police Explore Program (to name but a few)--with each having a focus to directly benefit the community and to promote good relations between the public and the police department; and WHEREAS; Chief Nunes has also been very involved in substance abuse prevention efforts by serving as Chair of the Pleasant Hill Community Against Substance Abuse (CASA) since its inception in 1990; and WHEREAS, it is with mixed feelings that we bid Jim Nunes a happy retirement on June 15 as we will miss the pleasure of working with him, but we definitely recognize that, after his many years of hard work, he is most deserving to reap the rewards of retiring; and WHEREAS, .Jim is a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, and we wish him much happiness, success, and enjoyment of the extra time he will have to spend with his family, to travel, and to continue his community service pursuits. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors proclaims June 15, 1996, as CHIEF JAMES R. NUNES DAY in Contra Costa County in honor of his retirement.
