DATE: April 8, 1996
SUBJECT: Proclamation for Bike to Work Day 1996
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATIONS
Adopt a resolution proclaiming May 16, 1996, Contra Costa County Bike to Work Day
FISCAL IMPACT
None.
BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
Contra Costa County's third annual Bike to Work Day will be on Thursday, May 16,
1996. Organized by the Health Service Department's Prevention Program and RIDES
for Bay Area Commuters, Inc., this date also coincides with a statewide bicycle
promotional event, California Bike Commute '96. The objective of Bike to Work Day
is to encourage County commuters to try bicycling to work on this occasion by
offering publicity, a drawing for prizes, and energizer stations. Once they try
bicycling, it is hoped that many participants will continue to commute by bicycle one
or more days a week. Bicycling is a healthful, nonpolluting, energy-saving mode of
transportation that offers great dividends to both the user and the community.
