HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 05141996 - C56 IN THE MATTER OF DECLARING ] RESOLUTION NO.96/200 MAY 13-17 AS TRY TRANSIT WEEK ] IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY ] WHEREAS, Contra Costa County has invested in public transit services that give workers, school children, senior citizens and those unable to afford an automobile access to jobs, schools, medical facilities and other necessary services; and, WHEREAS, public transportation is vital to the quality of life and economic well being of the citizens of this County: providing the potential to create jobs and enhance business prosperity, alleviating traffic congestion and loss of productive time; and WHEREAS, public transportation helps reduce the risks to the health of our citizens and the environment by reducing automobile exhaust emissions; and, WHEREAS, Tri Delta Transit, the American Public Transit Association, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, the Association for Commuter Transportation, the National League of Cities„ the National Governors'Association,America's Coalition for Transit NOW, the United States Department of Transportation, the United States Federal Transit Administration, the Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations, Citizen Action, the National Minority Business Council, and the Surface Transportation Policy Project have declared May 13-17 to be TRY TRANSIT WEEK and have called upon citizens nationally to promote transit's benefits. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does recognize May 13-17 as TRY TRANSIT WE E K PASSED by vote of the Board members present on this 14th day of May, 1996. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a resolution entered into the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
