Corbin mire* dwo May 2, 1996 REC Supervisor Jeff Smith, Chair Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors IAM 31 9 651 Pine Street Martinez, California 94553 - CLE Dear Chair Smith and Members of the Board of S ervisoii: K-se C.Nf-a Fest o Cmnfr is!nCimg o tLc -r_IrLvion of A C-!!Ith Came f--)r our citizens. The Martin Luther King Health Care Clinic has closed, Brookside Hospital is facing bankruptcy, and our new Kaiser Hospital has such a low patient census that it needs to form a partnership in order to remain viable. Contra Costa County is responsible for health care, and therefore should be playing a more prominent role in assuring that West County residents have access to a range of health care options in West County. Kaiser Hospital ts'the only earthquake safe hospital in the area. The County should attempt to facilitate the continuance of its operation, and if that in- cludes assisting Brookside, all the better. In any case I ant appealing to you as the Chair of the Board, to our Supervisor Jim Rogers, and all other supervisors to commit to working with Kaiser Hos- pital to maintain a health care facility in Richmond Thank you for your assistance. fours truly, Rosemary M. cor in, Mayor City of Richmond RMC.bja cc: Richmond City Council Kaiser-Permanente Hospital West County Mayors 2600 Barrett Ave. P.O.
