SPECIFIC REQUESTS OR RECOMMENDATION(S)8 BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDATION
A. APPROVE Second Amendment authorizing extra work under the consulting services agreement dated
November 15, 1995, with George Miers&Associates, for architectural services for First Floor Remodeling,
725 Court Street, Martinez, for Municipal & Superior Court Criminal Clerks. The Second Amendment
increases the scope of services and increases the Payment Limit, as modified by the First Amendment, from
$10,700.00 to $43,900.00.
B. AUTHORIZE the Director of General Services to execute the Second Amendment to the consulting
services agreement, and to issue written authorizations for extra work, in addition to the authorizations for
Amendments 1 and 2, provided that the cumulative total extra cost for such additional authorizations shall
not exceed $25,000.00. .
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT
Sufficient funds are available in the Plant Acquisition Account for this project to cover this increase in the
Consultant's Payment Limit.
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONSBACKGROUND
A. The Director of General Services executed a consulting services agreement with George Miers & Associates
effective November 15 1995, for architectural services to provide schematic design for remodeling a portion
of 725 Court Street to accommodate the Municipal and Superior Court Criminal Clerks. This agreement
and project began as part of the emergency action taken by the Board on September 19, 1995 as a result of
the fires which occurred at the County Courthouse at 725 Court Str et, Martinez, and the Mt. Diablo
Municipal Court facilities at 1950 Parkside Drive and 2970 Wi o as oa , oncord.

B. The Director of General Services issued Amendment No. 1, effective December 21, 1995, which
increased the scope of services to include two alternative designs for review, in addition to the initial
design. Amendment No. 1 increased the Payment Limit by $2,700.00, raising the Payment Limit
from $8,000.00 to $10,700.00.
C. Schematic Design Documents were approved effective March 8, 1996, which completed the current
scope of services.
D. This Board Order approves the Second Amendment which increases the scope of services to include
Design Development, Construction Documents and Bidding and Construction phases of architectural
service, and authorizes the Director of General Services to execute the Second Amendment and to
issue amendments up to a cumulative total of$25,000.00 in addition to the amounts approved in
Amendments 1 and 2.
