We contract with 17 cities and serve the entire County with the exception of the city of Antioch. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES • The prevention of animal-related injury and disease. • To encourage responsible pet-ownership and the humane - treatment of animals. • To reduce the number of animals that are euthanized by the County. BUDGET Expenditures:, $3,598,456 Revenue: $2,976,381 Net: $ 622,085 CUSTOMER PROFILE Population served is 796,000 65,000 requests for field service 400-500 telephone calls per day ANNUAL PERFORMANCE Workload/Performance/Revenue Indicators 1141 Dog Bite Investigations 3,998 Calls handled per Officer 105,419 Animals currently licensed $2,541,426 Revenue COMPARISON WITH OTHER AGENCIES Consistently ranked as one of the highest producing agencies in California. ACCOMPLISHMENTS Since the 1981-1982 fiscal year, the Department has reduced its dependence on the County General Fund by over 60% while experiencing an increase in the population served of over 25%. From 1981 to 1995, the consumer price index rose 67.7%. Our net budget was reduced from $190311840 (65.02%) to $622,085 ((17.29%).
