HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 03191996 - C9 ' ti IN THE MATTER OF HONORING ] JEANNE WILL, RECIPIENT OF THE ] MARTINEZ CHAMBER OF COMMERCE] "LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD" 1 Resolution No. 96/105 WHEREAS, Jeanne Will, a twenty-five year resident of Martinez, has always displayed generous public spirit, and has been a significant contributor to the enhancement of her community; and WHEREAS, Jeanne Will, through her interest in the environment and the quality of life in Martinez, was a founding member of Friends of the Franklin Hills, The Martinez Regional Land Trust, and The Friends of the Alhambra Creep; and WHEREAS, Jeanne Will, an avid reader, has supported the Martinez Library in every imaginable way, including serving on the board of Friends of Martinez Library, planning the recent renovation project, supervising volunteers, facilitating a new automation system, cleaning shelves and even moving boobs; and WHEREAS, Jeanne Will, in her quiet and modest manner, has positively affected the life of all of the citizens of the Community of Martinez, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does thereby honor and congratulate JEANNE WILL as recipient of the 1996 Lifetime Achievement Award PASSED by vote of the Board of Supervisors members present on this 19th day of March, 1996. PHIL BAT R, County Administrator and Cl e a oard of Supervis By Deputy Clerk Xaa V/ Yffj 0 woan* IN THE MATTER OF HONORING ] WENDI VELANDO AS THE ] MARTINEZ CHAMBER OF COMMERCE j _"1006 YOUNG 00NLAN OF THE YEAR" 1 Resolution No. 96/106 WHEREAS, Wendi Velando has been an exemplary and outstanding member of the Alhambra High School student body government holding the offices of Treasurer and Secretary during her sophomore and junior years ,and Student Body President during her senior year; and WHEREAS, Wendi Velando has participated on the swim team and the varsity tennis team, receiving a Most Valuable Player Award while maintaining a perfect 4.0, straight "A"average; and WHEREAS, Wendi Velando is involved in many other organizations including: the Kaleidoscope Student Committee, the Math Science Club, the California Association of Student Councils, and the California Scholarship Foundation where she serves as president; and WHEREAS,Wendi Velando gives generously to the community of Martinez through her volunteer efforts with the Kids Who Care program, the Alhambra Creek Clean-Up project, the Boys and Girls Club Crab Feed clean-up and as a math tutor to name a few; and WHEREAS, Wendi Velando, responsible, intelligent, competent, and warm is also listed in the Who's Who of American .Students; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does honor, recognize and commend WENDI VEIANDO as 1996 Young Woman of the Year PASSED by vote of the Board of Supervisors' members present on this 19th day of March, 1996. B Deputy Clerk c� IN THE MATTER OF HONORING ] SABIHA GOKCEN, RECIPIENT OF THE ] MARTINEZ CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ) ',i 996 WOMAN OF THE YEAR"AWARD 1 Resolution No. 96/107 WHEREAS, Sabina Gokcen, five year resident of Martinez, has made immeasurable contributions not only to the community of Martinez, but also to every community in Contra Costa County; and WHEREAS, Sabiha Gokcen, with her background in chemistry and micro-biology, was immediately aware of the community implications of a 1992 explosion at a chemical plant, and the lack of a notification process for the general public in case of a future disaster; and WHEREAS, Sabiha Gokcen was the moving force in establishing the Community Notification Advisory Board (CNAB), continuing to assume a leadership role as it defined, implemented and financed its recommendations for establishing a notification system; and WHEREAS, Sabina Gokcen chaired the Educational Component of CNAB, designing a model school emergency plan that not only deals with chemical disasters, but any and all hinds of disasters; and WHEREAS, Sabiha Gokcen involved volunteers, civic groups, and School Boards in training all school principals in the County in shelter-in-place and emergency procedures; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does hereby honor, commend, and congratulate SABIHA GOKCEN as 1996 Woman of the Year. PHIL BAT County Administrator andlCler o th rd of Supervisors By Deputy Clerk w , eqp" V/ w • IN THE MATTER OF HONORING ] BOB SPARACINO AS THE ] MARTINEZ CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ] "1996 MAN OF THE YEAR" 1 Resolution No.96/103 WHEREAS, Bob Sparacino is a committed, dedicated and active resident of the city of Martinez where he has lived for the past 40 years; and WHEREAS, Bob Sparacino has been involved with the Martinez Boys and Girls Club over the past 15 years, having served as its president and on the board of directors, but most importantly organizing and coordinating the annual Crab Feed fund raiser; and WHEREAS, Bob Sparacino has also been active in youth programs including helping the Alhambra High School athletics programs, announcing at football games, coaching Little League teams and helping to raise needed funds for all sports; and, WHEREAS, Bob Sparacino, as president of the Old Alhambra Club, organized the successful Norval Turner Dinner in June of 1995; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does honor, recognize and commend BOB SPARACINO as 1996 Man of the Year PASSED by vote of the Board of Supervisors members present on this 19th day of March, 1996. FITZGERALD, AS THE ] MARTINEZ CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ] 1996 YOUNG MAN OF THE YEAR,, 1 Resolution No. 96/104 WHEREAS, Edward R. Fitzgerald is an exemplary student at Alhambra High School who has been taking honors classes while maintaining a straight "A" average; and WHEREAS, Edward R. Fitzgerald participates actively in the student government, the school band, the Student Body's Campus Health and Safety Commissioner and a varsity All-League soccer player; and WHEREAS, Edward R. Fitzgerald has been a mentor to local Martinez children, working on their local AYSO/PHMSA soccer leagues as a volunteer coach; and WHEREAS, Edward R. Fitzgerald works hard on many community programs such as Club 21 and the "Share the Spirit" holiday program; and WHEREAS, Edward R. Fitzgerald is recognized as an outstanding young man by being the recipient of numerous awards and distinctions including the Captain and Coaches Award for the Most Inspirational , the Bausch and Lomb scholar for excellence in Science, the Principal's Honor Roll for the past four years, the Captain of the AYSO-PHMSA Hawaiian National Games for under !6 soccer team that brought Martinez a first place medal; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County does honor, recognize and commend EDWARD R.
