San Francisco, CA 94111 Martinez, CA 94553 (41 S) 772-4423 fax (41 S) 772-7331 ®®gym Dear Board Members: Every February our nation celebrates Black History Month. In 1915 Dr. Carter G. Woodson organized the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History in Chicago, Illinois. He believed that the Negro had a significant past and made important contributions to the mainstream of our society. Now, in 1996, another milestone in the life of our country has been reached as we recognize the 81st anniversary of Black History Month. This year The African American Community Entrustment is focusing on strengthening our families as a theme for Black History Month. Join us in bringing to the forefront millions of grandmothers from all over the country who, by their extraordinary efforts, have strengthened their families or communities, and in doing so have greatly contributed to black history over the years. The African American Community Entrustment and The United Way of the Bay Area invites you and other Bay Area leaders to join us in declaring February 8, 1996 as "Grandmother Awareness Day". We would like all of you to acknowledge this day by letting your grandmothers know how they are appreciated for the time, love and wisdom that they share with us in these dangerous, and difficult days. 'We hope you'll celebrate the grandmother's gift for caring and strengthening our families with us on February 8, 1996. Sincerely, Eleanor Williams-Curry President, African American Community Entrustment Core Supporter The United Way
