In the Matter of Honoring )
the Memory of ROBERT BA UM, Ph.D. ) RESOLUTION NO. 951318
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert Baum, who has been the Superintendent of the Mt. Diablo Unified
School District for the past five years, died tragically last month at the age of 47; and
WHEREAS, Bob was not only a superb leader, he was intelligent, innovative, humorous, and
well respected, and his sudden death has left a huge whole in the fabric of our community; and
WHEREAS, Bob has been lauded by his colleagues for his efforts in guiding the district through
financially difficult times while continuing to maintain high goals and for his vision of moving
forward in the areas of technology and designing curriculum that would be preparing students
for the 21st century; and
WHEREAS, Bob's talents were also enjoyed statewide through his service on the Association of
California School Administrators and as the Chair of Governor Wilson's Advisory Committee on
Education; and
WHEREAS, always an enthusiastic supporter of higher education, Bob, himself, proudly earned
dual doctorates in educational administration and higher education, and he also held a master's
degree in public school administration and a bachelor's degree in elementary education; and
WHEREAS, Bob was also a dedicated family man. With his wife, Lynne, he had three children
and lived in Discovery Bay; and
WHEREAS, Bob Baum gave his entire life to the pursuit of quality education, and he was
successful as a leader, a community advocate, a husband and father, and as a friend to many--
Bob and the many contributions he made to our community will long be remembered.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors honors the memory of
ROBERT BAUM, A.D. We are all saddened by his passing but better off for having known .
him.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON July 18, 1995, by a unanimous vote of the Board members
present.
