BACKGROUND: As part of a January 1994 settlement agreement, the General Chemical Corporation agreed to contribute $200,000 to Contra Costa County for the purchase and outfitting of a mobile health van to serve the greater Richmond area. In the process of developing the mobile van project, the Health Services Department concluded that it would be more cost effective to refurbish a van owned by Brookside Hospital, add equipment to it, and use some of the funds for personnel, community outreach and an evaluation component to document the impact of the mobile services. While consistent with the original intent of the Agreement, which is to create greater access to medical services, it was discovered that the proposed plan was not squarely within the language of the original Agreement and would require modification in order to proceed. General Chemical has agreed to the proposed amendment and has requested that all parties agree to the attached modification.
