SUBJECT: Employee Psychological Counseling/OHS
Specific Request (s) or Recommendation (s) & Background & Justification
I. RECOMMENDATIONS :
Approve and authorize the Sheriff-Coroner, or his designee, to execute
a contract extension with OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SERVICES for psychological
counseling services to the Sheriff ' s Department Employees for the period
July 1, 1995 to June 30, 1996, subject to cancellation if not included
in the FY 1995-96 Final Adopted Budget .
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The cost of this extension will be $50, 000 in fiscal year 1995-96, which
will be included in the Department ' s 1995-96 budget .
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND:
For the past :twelve years, this department has provided emergency
psychological counseling services to all sworn employees on a
contractual basis . This has become an essential part of the employee
assistance package. Many department employees have received significant
help in their personal and professional lives through this program.
The extension will provide, for the fifth consecutive year, services
without a cost increase. This program was competitively bid early in
fiscal 1992-93 , with Occupational Health Services providing the lowest
bid.
At this point in time, traditional stress from law enforcement
activities is being compounded by increased workloads and staffing
reductions . nA
