Costa FROM: Phil Batchelor, County Administrator �� 's �: County DATE: July 11, 1995 SUBJECT: CONTRACT EXTENSIONS FOR CHILD CARE PROJECTS SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATIONS: AUTHORIZE a three month extension of four 'contracts financed through the Child Care Affordability Fund, from July 1995 through September 30, 1995. BACKGROUND: In June 1994, the Board of Supervisors approved four projects from the Child Care Affordability Fund, as listed below. Contra Costa County Child Care $36,530 Council - Referral Services Contra Costa County Child Care $113,770 Council - Child Care Subsidies Pittsburg Pre-School Coordinating $49,850 Council -Infant Care Program Community Services Department- $49,850 Pullman and Maritime Child Care Centers These projects are slated for an annual review by the Finance Committee in July or August. In order to avoid service delivery disruptions, it is suggested that a three month contract extension be granted to each project, while the Finance Committee review is being conducted. County Counsel has advised that the Board can consider this item as part its regular agenda if the following steps are taken: 1. Clerk of the Board will post a Supplemental Agenda by 5:00 p.m. July 7. 2. Staff report and supporting documents are publically available at 5:30 p.m. July 7. 3. The Board, by three-fourths vote, waives the 96-hour rule under the Better Government Ordinance for agenda material availability at the July 11, 1995 Board meeting. Recommendations: 1. Waive the 96-hour requirement for agenda materials to be available. 2. Authorize a three-month extension of four contracts through the Child Care Affordability Fund, from July 1995 through September 30, 1995.
